An RM50 Million Blunder

No, I didn't make a mistake that cost me RM50 mil -- thank god for that -- but the RMAF apparently did. It was a routine maintenance for their fighter jets and obviously, as with every inspection, everything must be in perfect order or rectified where required. And during the course of this maintenance, they lost RM50 mil. Why? Because someone walked out with the jet engine. HAH?! Amazing. Simply spectacular. A routine maintenance and they lost a freakin' engine. Wow. RM50 mil, poof. Geez. There was also that blunder some years back where a terrorist group pretty much paraded out with a whole truck-load of guns. What's next, missing napalms? Certainly hope not. Worst of all, it was lost last year and it was hushed up. Fine, they didn't want to spread panic or something but a missing jet engine? How did that happen. And they're right to assume it is already lost on the black market. These kind of things are not stolen and then people hope for a buyer...

Kuala Selangor's History

Image
Yesterday I went to pay a visit the historical Bukit Malawati with my dad and bro. The journey there was more troublesome than it was tiring due to the numerous "hero kampung" on the road. Anyway, we bought our tickets and boarded a tram to get to the top of the hill. The original canons were still there and there were quite a sight. Speaking of sights, the view from on top of Bukit Malawati is truly a sight to behold. You can see the river mouth of the Selangor River. It also gives you quite a view of the Straits of Malacca. We visited the museum there and I learned a great deal more about Selangor. I also learned a bit more about my heritage as a Mendailing. Something the history books leave out; the Bugis and Mendailing had a stronger influence over Selangor than the Malays. The museum even put on the display several items of interest; Selangor's first flag, a replica of the armor used by the Bugis, Bugis handicraft, and two Sundangs (the largest in the kris family)....

Elevator Fun

Being nice and making very gentle comments can be so much fun. Especially if it is face to face. It was yesterday (Sunday, 2nd Nov 08) when my dad, bro and I went to Cold Storage BSC to do our weekly grocery. My dad accidentally parked in a no-parking zone. Since my bro and I had already stepped out, we stayed outside while my dad manoeuvred his CRV into a (valid) parking lot. While he was manoeuvring, some Perdana just pulled in beside him and started manoeuvring too. While waiting for the elevator, my dad and I had a brisk talk over the incident; "Abah, I'm going to have a word with the driver of the Perdana. He's coming here too, anyway," "No, Aqil. It's not worth it," "It is to me, Abah." Then the elevator arrived and my family, the Perdana driver and his wife, along with a Caucasian couple stepped into the elevator. The driver immediately stood behind the elevator buttons. I purposely stepped in last and once the elevator doors c...

No Good Deed Goes Unpunished

I'm sorry, I know it's been ages (almost to the point of being literal) since my last post. You know the saying; "no good deed goes unpunished"? Well it doesn't. When I try to do a good deed, it all goes terribly wrong. A friend of mine was really REALLY down because her grades weren't good. So I hand her my phone to show her some funny pictures. It does the trick but then everyone else start kinda getting interested and no one notices the disciplinary teacher walk in. The next incident is what normally happens should nature take it's course; my phone gets confiscated. Now, my parents are pissed but syukur alhamdulillah I have such great parents so they aren't gonna kill me. Yet. I don't exactly blame the teacher as he was just doing his job but it is troublesome, especially so close to Eid Il Fitri and all. Sometimes, these events make being a PRS seem almost not worthy, especially since only the counselors are watching our backs. Although we coul...

Info & Documentation in Malaysia.

It's SO difficult to find a stupid address. It took me a long time to look for info to complete my History folio. The government doesn't properly document important/key info and their websites appear sloppy and unprofessional. I'm not saying I can do a better job but they are the government. I mean, couldn't they hire somebody to do a proper job. About poorly documented info; the complete history on Hang Tuah and Malay folklore is poorly documented. The least they could do was write down where we could get it. Eg; National Museum, National Archive, National Library, etc. Why is it so difficult for Malays to do a proper and thorough job.? Why?!

Veggies Gone Crazy

Image
I was doing the grocery yesterday and spotted some veggies in the 'seafood' section. Bewildered and laughing my head off, I snapped some pictures. Not all though, was afraid of being chased out. I'm not going to tell which grocer but fellow Malaysians in Shah Alam might (might not) know. There was about 9 different sections all with veggies among fish. I've no idea why the did it and I'm not too keen on knowing why. Broccoli among shrimp Lemons on fish Broccoli among crabs and fish Spinach between fish Broccoli among fish Spinach among price tags and fish
