Open Season?

Classes have resumed.  Last two semesters have felt like open season & I was the deer.  Mechanics & Heat  in the short semester, then Multivariate Calculus in the following semester were really a blow to my CGPA. I've probably rambled a lot about this so I'm not going to say anything more.  Let's just hope that hunting season is over & this little deer is not going to face anymore trouble. This semester I'm only taking 3 subjects; Thermodynamics, Electricity & Light, & retaking Multivariate Calculus.  Multivariate Calculus has a new lecturer so hopefully she's good.  Going to work hard at all my papers now.  Have to.  Need to bring up my CGPA so I can apply. Talking about applications, I'm now looking at Canada rather than the States due -- primarily -- to safety issues...  There has been literally a shooting every week.  It's frightening.  Going to apply to McMaster, University of Calgary, & Queen's. ...

Keeping Fit

Ramadan is a tricky time to stay fit. It's very much possible, just for me, it requires more discipline compared to other months.  Usually after iftar, I'm either too full/worn out to do sports and/or I am going to tarawih with my family. My parents seem fine with me doing exercises late-er due to Ramadan but when something isn't in your routine, it feels odd. Maybe I still should train at night, like when I played rugby; we trained at night after tarawih.  I'll do that. So tomorrow night, night run. I'll try to hit 6km & see how I fare. Minimum distance I need to run is 4km. I'm sure my fitness is quite bad. I haven't really done much training since Port Dickson International Triathlon, which was about three weeks back or so... O-O September is going to be a busy busy month.  I have the Adidas King of the Road 10km road run, Taiping International Marathon (I'll most likely be doing the 21km half-marathon), Desaru International Triathlon (still ...

Busy Weekend Recap

Today is the 4th of July!!! The American Independence Day. In conjunction with this, the Sunway ADTP Student Committee is orgainizing a summer pool party called "An American Summer" this evening, from 6-10. It's going to be a blast!! Hehe! Anyway, the weekend was busy for me. I went to my mom's Family Day in Taman Rimba Kiara, Taman Tun Dr. Ismail, KL. Quite a nice place. Apparently, there's also some trails there so definitely worth a look. I used my student ID to get a discount for the first time on Saturday!! Woohoo!! Hehe!! On Sunday, I went to Bukit Bandaraya, Shah Alam for the 3rd leg of the Token Bikezooka MTB Series. The turn up was a bit less this time around. The track was a blast!! Phew. At the beginning, they give us this massive climb. 80. Everybody was cursing on their way up. I was humming. Hehe! A trick I learned from my mom. After the climb, there's a quick descent then some tarmac where you can regain your breath. Then more cli...

A Swim, Two Exams, and an Endurance Race.

Finally the weekend is over. Time for me to recover and recuperate. On Friday, I had my Bronze Medal examinations. I passed so now I'm a qualified life guard! Hehe! It was actually a lot of fun! There were only 2 timed events. The first was to swim 50m (any stroke), rescue the victim and tow him back 50m with the assistance of an aid (a short rope). The time to beat was 00:03:00 minutes. I clocked in 00:02:48. Hehe! The other timed event was the rope toss. You have to gather the rope, roll it so that you can toss it well to the victim who is about 10-20m out in 'open' water. Time to beat; 00:01:00. My time: 00:0043. Muahahaha! I also did very good for the other events. My 'victim' -- a fellow exam taker -- said that my chin tow was very comfortable. Muahahaha! Luckily for me, the guy was a floater, despite being on the heavier side. Me? I sink. Heh heh. Sorry. He had a bit of trouble with me. Hehe! Saturday was my SAT. Huh. Go figure, the ...

Kencana-SIC Bikeathon

Image
Some of you may have read on Facebook that I participated in a race this past Sunday on February 20th, 2011. It was an all-day event consisting of one mountain bike event -- called the Jamboree --, and 3 road bike events -- called Criterium races. The Jamboree was the first event of the day and was scheduled to start and 10. Riders were to be at the starting grid by 9:45 a.m. Alright, before you go on, I'm going to rant about the flaws of the event before the good part. So if you want to skip the bad, go to paragraph 7 (not counting this paragraph & the one above). By 9:30, there were still around 30 people who hadn't received their race number and transponders. No, it's not that so many people showed up, overwhelming the organizers. It was the sheer inefficiency of the organizer's themselves. In short, the registration was an absolute mess. The counters weren't properly labelled, the chain of command was all over the place, there was hardly anyone in cha...

251st Post!!

Image
I would have done this one my 250th post but I didn't notice that it was the 250th. Heh heh. My bad. Anyway, I recently bought a book. Finally, a book. Hehe. I'm an avid reader & as I was browsing through MPH Subang Parade last weekend, I realized it's been a while since I read a book that I wanted to. The latter part of last year many of us had our noses buried in reference books, text books, notes we took down during class, etc, gearing up for SPM. Now it was time I got something I wanted to read. I've always been intrigued by mystery novels; the Hardy Boys, Famous Five, etc. So I got one. Want to guess what book I got? I'll give you a hint. Look familiar? I'm sure it pretty is. Yep, I got myself a copy of 'The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes' by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. Somehow, despite being a fan of mystery books, I had never read any of Sherlock Holmes' Adventures. Sure, I've heard of some of his stories but never actually re...

Quick Update...

Sorry for not blogging lately! A lot has been happening and I just haven't had the time to blog. Last weekend, I participated in a public speaking competition and naturally, blew it. Haha. A friend of mine, Mikhail entered too but he didn't make it to the semi-finals either. Kinda disappointed but I kinda saw it coming. This weekend I have a debate competition at HELP College. Excited and nervous at the same time. Also, there's a downhill event coming up; The Kiara Rage. It's on 25th July. Unfortunately, I cannot participate. Huhu. Mainly because I need more practice, a new helmet & my parents' permission. Hehehe. Um, just a short update for now. Au revoir.

Feels Good to Be Back

Image
It's been a while since I blogged. Quite a while, I know. I've just been so caught up with school, studying, recovering, etc. Yes, recovering. I know most of you already know what I mean by recovering but for those who don't know, it's because I crashed while mountain biking at Putrajaya Challenge Park. I crashed about a week back on Saturday. Looked quite bad. But it wasn't as bad as it looked. Some of you may have noticed my walking around school with a mask the past week. It wasn't because I wasn't feeling well, it was because I was hiding my injuries. Didn't want to attract too much attention. Though the slash-like bruise on my forehead and love bite-like bruises on my neck -- that's what many people said -- attracted quite a bit of attention. Those were harder to cover up. This was me just over a week ago. Now, my bruises are all gone and my lips & chin are completely healed, if not a bit pink because the scabs just fell off. OK, maybe ...

Late-Night Runabout.

It's the eve before Eid il Adha and our washing area is flooded. A pipe connected to the washing machine completed broke off and the water was pouring all over the place. My mom came downstairs to find my maid practically soaked. My mom was very upset because she didn't say anything despite the severity of the situation. My mom was going "if I didn't come down to check on the apple pie, things would be floating down here," and Abah tried to separate two components but the part that was originally part of the tap completely shattered when he put a plier around it. And it wasn't because my dad applied to much pressure, the metal was brittle. I could literally break it in two with my hands. So, Abah & I went out to but the needed components. We rushed to Mydin and then to Giant because Mydin didn't have the tap head. That was tiring. Not to mention stressful. By the way, that is one of the few times you will see me outside wearing slippers -- bes...

Promised Pictures

Image
What to write about? Hmm. I don't really have much to talk about but it's been so long since I blogged regularly I feel I must take advantage of this opportunity and write. Ahah! I haven't posted the pictures of the town my team & I -- The Frozen Ones -- built during the recent NIE NST Creative Writing Course. I've already provided an explanation about our town on my previous post ' NIE NST Creative Writing Program '. So here are the promised pictures; Beginning of construction -- Finally after a long discussion Putting the final -- hurried -- touches Voila! The finished product! Quite honestly, this is the first time I've engaged in such a project. Be it individually or with a group and it was a lot of fun!

NIE NST Creative Writing Program

This weekend Liyana & I attended a 'Creative Problem Solving' course which is part of a 5-month creative writing course sponsored by Sime Darby Properties Sdn . Bhd . QM should have joined but her mom didn't let her. It really is a shame. In total, 43 kids attended. Our group consisted of representatives from SMKBJ -- Liyana & I -- and kids from Bandar Melawati -- I think it's Bandar . We called ourselves 'The Frozen Ones' because we were right under the A/C and it was FREEZING. The first day, we didn't do that many 'group activities' so to speak. Today, we had to built our dream town that also solved these problems Pollution Flood/Drainage Weather/Greenhouse effect Traffic Crime Social Problems One of the girls; Amal immediately said 'no cars'. So in our town, everyone cycles, skates or rides electric vehicles. The houses are powered by solar energy and the town's facilities are powered by a turbine in the man-made ...

Woohoo!

Yesterday, I had a debate. Sharanya, QM & I represented 4 Beta. We went up against 4 Epsilon who were represented by Heikal, Haziq Shaharel & Aizat. We had a blast! The topic was "P.P.S.M.I. should be abolished. Science & Math should be taught in the mother tongue". We were the government team. QM was quite good and so was Sharanya. Heikal had excellent points but his delivery style needs working on which is a shame. He had the best points. Aizat was good. He just lacked statistics. Haziq's delivery style was cool. Very calm, and relaxed. I'm not sure about the marks but 4 Beta won. And I was named 'Best Debater'. I expected it to go to Sharanya so it was a pleasant surprise. Lina came over while the adjudicators were convening and when Aizat said only debaters were allowed to the tables, Lina claimed to be our coach. Haha. That was a good cover. Afterwards Lina was like "Woohoo. Free cert!". Haha. Liyana was the Madam...

Raya Wrap Up

It has been a while since I blogged. Where should I start? Ah yes, my raya. Hmm. How should I start? Haha. So many questions. I'd say the beginning is a mighty fine place to start, what say you? First day of raya. We woke up bright and early and went to the mosque in BJ. There was an announcement to raise funds for the new mosque to be built near the lake by Lagenda. The artist's impressions were quite nice. Unfortunately, I would have left for college by the time it is to be completed. Fortunately, I won't have to cycle there every Friday. Hehehe. After prayers, we went home, ate a little, packed my parents' rendang and some ketupat then we hit the road for Banting. Atuk seems more livelier now. Everyone was there -- a rare occasion in Banting since at least one family won't be there at the same time -- and though it was quiet, it wasn't awkward. Jokes were being cracked, laughter was heard and people were munching. Hehe. It was nice and relaxin...

An Interesting Day In A Long Time

There are two very important events coming up. One is Hari Raya Eid il Fitr. I know everyone is getting hyped up for it. Is it just me or do I feel more hype among my friends this year? Oh well. The second important upcoming event is my birthday!! Its in two days' time so boys and girls, I expect you to break the bank getting me all kinds of expensive presents! Muahahaha. Just kidding. A sincere 'Happy Birthday' is sufficient. And please smile. In case some of you were planning on saying it half-heartedly. There's only one teeny problem. I don't know what to ask for my birthday! Is this normal? I don't know but I seem pretty content with my life. I mean, sure there are a few things I would like but I'm afraid of breaking the bank. Hmm... Anyway, this morning took an interesting turn while I was getting ready. I was still in my towel and about to put on my contacts when all the lights in my room went out. I went to my parents room to check o...

Back From Tukwan's

When Ramadan came, I was excited to go back to Taiping because normally during Ramadan, at around 6 or so, my cuz and I play a bit of soccer. I always lose but hey, its fun. Not losing, having fun with my cousin is fun. Anyway, I thought we would be going back at the end of Ramadan. I was wrong. We went back to Taiping on the FIRST day of Ramadan. Hehehe. After my Add Math tuition that Saturday morning, I went back, packed up and after helping my mom a bit with the baking of two Crumbly Apple Pies -- my mom's Apple Pies are so YUMMY (Homer's day-dreaming tone).... my mouth is watering at the thought of it -- we hit the road. But first, we visited my cousins who just got back from Canada. It was good to see them again. They renovated their house quite a bit. It is very nice now. The boys are die-hard Man Utd fans and they decided to repaint their room in the same color & pattern as M.U.'s latest jersey. Yep, that die-hard. We left and hit the highway to arri...

SMKBJ ExploRace/EcoCycle

I just completed SMKBJ's first Ecocyle or ExploRace as everyone calls it. It was a lot of fun. Wil Sern, Tze Yie, Shuet Yee & Sen Yong were a lot of fun. They were all great sports. Tze Yie can hula hoop for 30 seconds! And that was her first time trying! She's good. Wil Sern was our guide as most of the track was in the Kubah-Serambi area. Shuet Yee & her brother were awesome. Especially during the second challenge where we had to tie our legs together and hop. Shuet Yee was very good during the third challenge; picking out what leaf belonged to which plant. I blew my back tire. Hehe. But its fixed now. Went straight to the store in TTDI Jaya after the event. Faris's team came in first apparently. I had a great time. Besides the blown tire. Time went by so fast. We should do it again. Oh and Afif's team gave me their 100 Plus. Haha.

Victory!

Today, June 27th 2009, BJ's very own rugby team went up against MBSA, Taylor's College and MSU, respectively. And today, a historic milestone in the Warrior's brief history, we won a game! We won our game against MSU! C'mon all of those in BJ. Support your rugby team! We may be under-experienced but we managed to beat a college! That's something to be proud of. The scores are as follows; 2-0, 1-0, 1-0. Woohoo! Warriors on three. 1, 2, 3, WARRIORS!

The Passing of the King of Pop

Wow. What a shocker. King of Pop Michael Jackson has gone. What a shame. He was on the verge of a comeback. And me made amazing music. Wow.

It's Been a While, Hasn't It

Bonjour my readers. I'm sorry for not updating recently. I've gotten my results and there are terrible. T-T. I just started tuition. My first class was today. Physics. Much better teaching than the one my class got. This Saturday there's going to be 3 events in one day; Report Card Day (Hari Terbuka), Civic Carnival (Karnival PSK) and Co-op Day (Hari Koperasi). Brilliant going. Yahoo. Remind me to send a congratulatory note to the genius who arranged that. I'm cutting school that day to go for my Add Math tuition. I completely blew that one. T-T. That's all for now. Au revoir

Someone Found the Book of the Dead..

OK maybe not quite that literally but it HAS been a while since I last blogged. It's been 13 days. WOW. Almost 2 weeks. Anyway, Mother's Day has gone by, Syaza & Syarul have moved to different schools, I got a new position on the rugby team, I'm turning down the chance to go to Perkhemahan Peringkat Negeri for Bomba and exams have started. So much has gone by. On Mother's Day, we didn't really do anything... Hehe. But my family isn't that big a celebrator of Mother's Day & Father's Day... So my mom was cool about it. She cooked and it was fantastic. Missed her cooking. Syarul went to Victoria's Institution (V.I.) and Syaza... Um... I'm not sure where she went. Wonderful friend I am. I think she went to MRSM. Oh so did Syahirah and... Syuhada I think. T-T. I'm a bad friend aren't I? About rugby, there's a tournament coming up in June. 10 a-side instead of the regular 15 a-side. So the game is gonna be faster. W...
